Lose Rabbit Shoot and Put on Feed in Alma

Elwell lodge challenged Alma lodge to a rabbit hunt with the loser feeding a rabbit supper. Alma reportedly bagged about a hundred rabbits while Elwell fell twenty short. Elwell members prepared a banquet with music at the Alma Judge dial Monday night.

Fire guts corner house on Woodworth Street

A Saturday morning blaze gutted the corner house at Woodworth and Walnut owned by Frank Waite and occupied by James Allen. Total losses near 3000 dollars for the residence and several hundred for goods. Fire gained headway before discovery. three water streams fought the stubborn flames until control was gained. Neighbors helped move goods but suffered water and smoke damage. Cause is unclear though rumors cite a few possibilities.

Car death case ends with hung jury and acquittal report

Witter of Alma was arrested last June after the death of Albert Tialeh near St Louis. The Ithaca circuit court jury could not agree on involuntary manslaughter or negligent homicide and stood 10 to 1 in favor of acquittal before Judge E J Moinet. Witter was discharged after the hung jury.

Fine Thanksgiving Program Held at Coe

About 400 people from Cos, St Laura, Shepherd, Forest Hill, Vestaburg and Alma attended a community Thanksgiving program at Coe Church hosted by the Community Club. Hardwaremen Hold Big Banquet Here

The annual Hardwaremen meeting for Gratiot, Isabella, Clare and Midland counties was held at the Wright House on Monday evening December 4. About thirty hardware men and their clerks attended, with Earl Clapp and Lawrence Mortiger presiding as chairs. C F Nelson of the Michigan Retail Hardwaremen Association spoke on advertising and salesmanship. Herman Dingman led the question box. Mr Mottivel and Mr Chepp were named permanent chairmen for the coming year.
