Modern novel hero immoral days crooks

Dr H M Crooks president of Almacol- Jone told 150 West Side Teachers' Club members in Saginaw last Wednesday that popular fiction often morals. He argued that supernatural heroes and accident driven reform mislead youth and urged books true to life and interpret life honestly. Mary McFratnie spoke of a Lansing teachers club convention.

Alma Art Club Concert Draws Big Crowd

The Inca artiste concert at Presbyterian Church Friday evening, hosted by the Alma Art Club, offered high quality musical entertainment. Proceeds totaling 190 dollars were given to the Alma Welfare Association to fund winter work, as more than twenty performers contributed musical selections and readings.

Servant in the House reading at Presbyterian Church Friday

Prof Ray Immel of the University of Michigan will present The Servant in the House as a reading at 8 o clock Friday evening in the Presbyterian Church. The event is under Presbyterian Brotherhood auspices with no charge to attendees and no public fee. Everyone is invited.

Licenses Go On Sale Friday for 1923 Plates in Gratiot

Automobile owners and truck and motorcycle users may secure their 1923 license plates starting Friday December 1 at the Secretary of State branch office in Alma run by Sharar and Watson. Plates go on sale but cannot be used until January 1. A new title-for-license rule requires owners to show proof of title to purchase and the clerk must note the title number on the license application. Those without title cannot buy plates. purchase between December 1 and December 24 to avoid year-end rush.

Mrs Bonbright to Give Recital Here at Alma College

Mrs H Bonbright of Flint will appear at Alma College on Thursday evening December 7 in a recital for students and friends. She has studied widely and will be joined by Miss Baker, a noted soloist. Also Sunday Bishop Williams will visit Episcopal churches in Alma and St Louis delivering sermons to packed congregations. The Gift Shop opens December 20 and 21, operated by the Ladies of the Christian church in the former Durkee Music House building.

The federal government designated December 4 to 9 as American Education Week with Dr P P L Claxton, then commissioner of education, initiating the annual observance. Alma College A and B grade intelligence test results

The annual Range of Information Test at Alma College shows 60 freshmen taking the exam. Thirteen earned A grades, led by Gilbert Davis of St. Louis, with three Alma students among them. Dorothy Bradley of Alma achieved the top score among 40 freshmen girls at 156, six girls earning A.

Well Known Resident Died Here on Monday

Paris Robinson a former Champaign merchant and longtime city resident died after several weeks illness early Monday at his daughter's Center street home. He was 79, a Mason and Knight Templar, with funeral services held Tuesday at his daughter's home before burial in Champaign.

Vandals Strike Alma College Ahead of Football Meet

Vandals damaged Alma College grounds on Thursday with paint on four brick buildings and the athletic gate at Davis Field. President Crooke attributed the act to irresponsible individuals and said it did not reflect student sentiment. Authorities planned campus patrols after rumors of a Friday return, with local residents demanding an end to such acts to preserve athletic relations with Mt Pleasant Normal.

McKye Appears in Alma December 6
