The Supervisors finalized the city tax rolls with a total assessed valuation of 1 594 215. Ward distributions show first ward 396 130 second ward 689 695 third ward 231 145 fourth ward 276 045. Total tax by ward and per thousand rates break down county 1.60 school 7.00 state 2.00 highway 2.90 city 12.59. Total per thousand 25.60.

McClure's Picture Not of Mrs Eddy Says Committee

Alfred Farlow of the Christian Defence Church publishes a statement denying that a McClure's Magazine December photo shows Mrs Mary Baker Eddy. The image is claimed to be a likeness of Sarah C Chevaillier, a previous Boston resident who died in California, supported by an affidavit from Chevaillier's son. The committee asserts possession of Chevaillier's photo matching the published image.

Alma at Owosso in Thanksgiving Day clash

Alma, aided by former high school players and college scrubs, faced Owosso on Demby field in a hard fought Thanksgiving game. Owosso scored twice in the first half through Benson and a crossbar kick on St Cyr, then extended their lead in the second half. Benson stood out with precise place kicking as Alma, hampered by limited practice, fought hard but fell 17 to 0.

Withey Morton Nuptials in Hibbing

Frank H. Withey of Hibbing Minnesota and Miss Julia Morton of Elwell were married at the bride’s home. Rev. Williams officiated with Leone Morton and Louis Anderson as attendants. The couple left for a ten day wedding trip to Chicago and western points then will reside in Hibbing where the groom works as chemist for Oliver Mining Company. Mrs. Withey is a former Alma College student.

Attorney Kress Wins In Peddling Ordinance Case

About a year ago City Council directed City Attorney Kress to draft an ordinance regulating peddling within city limits. Frank Crow was arrested, convicted, and appealed through circuit and Supreme courts, which affirmed. Kress conducted the prosecution in all courts alone. Train Fatality in Scottville Claims Chas Wilson Life

Chas. Wilson of this city was killed by a train in Scottville last Saturday. His body was brought to Alma for funeral services held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at his parents’ Michigan Avenue home. Theo F. A. Clapp conducted the service. Interment followed at Riverside cemetery. He leaves a father, mother, and siblings behind.
