Alma citywide tax for 1914 shows a total of 66 649 80 with a rate of 24 06 per thousand, down from 34 05 last year, making the rate nearly one percent lower. The Fourth Ward and Third Ward totals are listed with slight changes, and the county board of equalization completed its work, forwarding lists to city and township clerks.
Ellison and Mr Lawrence Ellison receive praise for three Superior and State street display windows. One features a staple table delicacy assisted by a firm representative, while the other two showcases are entirely his work. Local dealers rival city displays as holiday advertising reaches new levels of tastiness and completeness.
Alma forms Red Cross Fund to support relief for Europe. Donations urged as season of giving nears. Fund boxes placed in local drugstores and East Side Grocery. yarn and knitted items welcome. Contributions and crafts to be sent to Red Cross Headquarters by January 1, 1915, with local coordinators named.
Robert C Stitt born June 13 1881 in Newark township died November 24 1914 at home of his parents after four years of illness. Survived by mother Mrs Willam Stitt father two sisters Mrs Luar Cumberworth Mary and two brothers R K Stitt Bay City and T B Stitt Gwinn. Funeral Thursday at 10 conducted by Rev Food I O O F Alma and Pompeii crews assisted. interment Fulton Center Cemetery.
The Knights of Pythias lodge voted to move meetings to Thursday nights. Ten committees of ten members will host banquets and entertainment every two weeks for six months, each committee receiving $5 from lodge funds plus extra fundraising. The first banquet is on election night, Thursday December 10.

The Alma Michigan Sugar plant projects a record beet season with 1915 acreage contracts pouring in. Last week alone contracts equal one third of the prior season, as the 1914 run yielded 42 000 tons of beets and 10.5 million pounds of sugar. About 3650 workers earned roughly 40 000 dollars in wages, while 200 000 dollars went to farmers. Production relied on European seed and war disruption may limit seed availability, but optimism remains for a bumper season.

College seniors present the farce An Unexpected Guest in the college chapel on Thursday December 10 at eight o clock. Paul Austin Margaret Allen Clarence Goodrich Bryen McCloy lead roles with Joseph Kennely coaching. A large crowd is expected and a nominal twenty five cent admission is charged for reserved seats. Mrs W B Strong returns to Alma after visiting her daughter A R Cleland.
George Culver died last week Tuesday at his daughter Ada Leonard's home, where he lived for 14 years. Born April 18, 1884 in Norwich, Conn, he married twice and had nine children, six surviving. Funeral held at the Coe schoolhouse with Elder Keech officiating. interment at Coe cemetery beside his first wife. The family thanks friends and the Ladies' Aid for floral offerings.
The Civic League and Sunday school groups in Alma discuss a town wide Municipal Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve. A mammoth tree at Superior and State streets will be decorated and carry messages for every child. Santa Claus will hand out oranges and candy. Committees cover finance arrangements music and logistics.

Union Thanksgiving services across Baptist churches featured Rev William Mason delivering the sermon from I Chronicles 16 34 praising God and gratitude. He warned of secular drift, urged worship of the Sabbath, and stressed dependence on God amid hunger fears and national prosperity.
