Wedding in Winona as Sophie Dunham Moore Marries Floyd Moore

At the bride's mother's home in Winona Minnesota Sophie Estella Dunham married Floyd Wayne Moore. The ceremony featured music by Arlie Redfield and Olive Smith with Rev. W E Doty officiating. The couple left for Port Huron and a lake trip before settling in Winona after October 1.

When Machine Turns Turtle at Pleasant Races Crash

Last Friday morning Wes ley Marr Fred Wright J W Blakely and Fred Slater left Mima in Mr Wrights touring car to spend the day at the races. North of the city a car approached from the north and the Wright vehicle failed to turn out. The automobile struck the wheel of the carriage turning it around and scattering the occupants. Wright sustained three broken ribs and further injuries. Parr was thrown twenty feet but unharmed. Slater injured a wrist and Blakely bruised. The party escaped with injuries and were taken to the city for care.

Fleming Family Reunion Highlights Gratiot Pioneer Roots

A large gathering at Rev. J. H. Fleming’s home in August marked a family reunion of descendants of Charles M. and Elvira Humphrey Fleming, pioneers in Gratiot County. The Flemings helped found the First Presbyterian church in Pine River, later influencing Alma’s Presbyterian center, with notable long lives and devotion to local history.

Great Sugar Consumption Record Reveals Imports and Home Output

The Bureau of United States Reports shows that as of June 20 the U S consumed a record sugar amount totaling $00,000,000 ponds with half imported and a quarter from island possessions. Cuba supplied the majority of foreign sugar, with Manali, Port Ries, and the Philippines also contributing.

Open Air Service Sermon At Presbyterian Lawn

Rev J W Priest preached at the open air service on the Presbyterian church lawn last Sunday night on the theme Counting the Cost. He urged church members to count the cost of discipleship and warned some may be lost due to not counting Godlessness. The crowd enjoyed the outdoor service and looked forward to next week led by Rev Frank Jackson of the Episcopal church with the same pleasant format.

Death of Mrs. J Estella Lemon of Detroit

Mrs. J Estella Lemon born September 4 1854 in Oakland County lived in Hartland Alma Shepherd and Detroit. She died August 10 after long illness at home in Detroit and is survived by husband R D Lemon son Major Lemon father John Dunham sister Mrs H J Hyde and brother M J Dunham. Funeral and burial were held in Shepherd and Detroit as noted.

Parcel Post Rates Cut Costs for Local Shipments

Alta business concerns are using the new parcel post rates effective Friday August 16. The 20 pound limit expands first zone to Milwaukee and Ithaca, with five cents for the first pound and one cent for each additional two pounds. Second zone mirrors former rates, while old first zone rates were higher. A 20 pound parcel now costs 24 cents, an 11 pound at 11? cents, saving 31 cents. more packages exceed the old 11 pound limit as parcel post business rises locally.

6000 Program Arranged For College Concert Course

An unusually fine list of musical artists has been selected for next season's college concert course. The course will include three concerts by artists of national and international reputation on October 4, November 17, and January 22 in the college chapel. Featured performers include Nugo Kortschak, the Bohemian violinist and new concert master of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Miss Elizabeth Pollender, Marion Green the American baritone, and Bendetson Netzorg the American pianist.

The P M R R built a flagman building at Woodworth avenue crossing. He logged traffic for six days before August 15 between 6 30 p m and 6 20 p m, recording 198 teams and autos and pedestrians counted at the crossing.
