The city has filed a suit against Purcell and a well digger seeking damages totaling $25,000. The case alleges breach of contract and related obligations arising from municipal works. Court records show the defendants named and the claim amount requested.
Alma city officials sue A. R. Purcell and seize two well digging machines over a 40 000 contract for 2000 gpm water. They claim 6000 dollars (15 percent) was illegally obtained by misrepresentation and seek 25000 dollars in damages plus recovery of machinery to complete safe drinking water, with one machine held in St Louis and another unlocated.
The City of Alma will be christened at Alexandria Virginia in the near future by order of the L A Shipping Board. Governor Sleeper may attend. Alma will grant The American Stock Food company of Grand Rapids a ten year contract to establish a bio piggery just outside the city. The deal covers garbage disposal for ten years from Sept 1 1910 with collections twice weekly from homes and six times weekly from hotels and businesses. Pigs will be kept off ground in a three story tower and fed on rest material while the company posts a $2000 annual bond for faithful performance and city protection against neglect.
Rumors say the Saginaw Republics may face the Mo Witte team in a planned May series, with games split between Alma and Saginaw. Both clubs, already top in the Michigan Ontario league, show strong support to arrange the event attracting local fans and statewide attention.
The Standard Oil Company selected Henry H. Soule to construct a central distributing plant in Alma, a 30 by 80 foot brick one-story building with a half basement, office, warehouse, and garage, ready by December 1, 1914. Estimated cost around $20,000. Also, Gratiot County L. C. T. M. members plan their annual picnic at Wright Park featuring the pageant Peace with lodges from the county.

Women across the county assist, with Alma divisions led by ward chairs including Laura B R Soule and Mrs Crisp. Nearby, G W Ingersoll of Constantine visits family. he serves as superintendent of schools at Constantine.
