Studio to Close for National Photographers Meet
The Horn Photographic Studio will close from August 7 to August 19 to allow Mr. and Mrs. F. Horn to attend the National Convention of the American Photographers Association at Niagara Falls. Wm McFaul aged fifty two died at his home in Alma on Sunday after a long illness due to typhoid fever. Born in Quebec he spent most of his life near Sumner with his people. Youngest Civil War veteran Henry Wise carried a musket at fourteen
Henry Wise of Alma claims to be the youngest Federal Civil War soldier. Born January 1, 1856 in Ohio, he enlisted February 22, 1864 at Fostoria at age 14. He served through the war with Company G, 4th Ohio Infantry, took part in major campaigns, and later received a pension after records showed his true age. Wise says younger veterans exist but he remains convinced he is the youngest to have carried a musket.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports William Rice Watson, once a Alma resident, died at his family home on Belmont Avenue. A prominent real estate figure, he belonged to Lafayette Lodge No. 16 and the Eagles, and had spent the last decade in Seattle with his wife and daughter. Cremation is planned for Sunday afternoon with services at 2 o'clock at Bonney-Watson parlors.
