Alma receives crossing protection order from state commission
The Michigan Railroad Commission ruled after inspections that Alma must add protections at Superior Center and Lincoln street crossings of the Pere Marquette and Ann Arbor lines. The order hours flagman at Superior from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm, trains to slow to 10 mph at night, and within 30 days install and operate automatic bells at Center and Lincoln streets. Costs are shared by the two railroads.

Far East voyage cut short by river canoe capsizing
Paul Morgan and Alfred Papworth, a college sophomore from Howell and a resident of Alma, rode a Pine River canoe that capsized in high winds. They clung to the overturned craft, were rescued by a fisherman, and suffered only severe cold. Morgan, recently back from Missouri State University, plans to sail May 6 from San Francisco to the Philippines to supervise native teachers for the U S government.

Change of Ownership at Hub Cafe Belding
Harvey Hubbard sold the Hub cafe after two years to Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gais of Belding who will run the business in the same location. Mrs. Gais, with restaurant experience, takes possession and will manage until her husband arrives May 1. The cafe has been repapered and painted with repairs. Sunday dinners and regular boarders will be added along with short order service.

The Mt Pleasant Normal will present a multi day festival in May featuring Madan Grace Mall Riheldaifer soloist from major orchestras in a May night song recital.
