Alma High School student wins district oratorical contest

Seven contestants from Carson City Ithaca Ovid Inaw St Charles St Johns and Alma competed in the District High School Oratorical contest held in Ovid. Albert W Hudson of Alma High School won with a speech titled The Impending Conflict earning 45 points from judges including Prof J M Thamer and Rev C J Hanks. Hudson, 20, is son of Andrew and Mrs Hudson of Seville township and will represent Alma High School at the state contest in Holland on May 4 hoping to win the gold medal and $16. Other notes mention staff changes student activities and upcoming events at Alma College.

Stolen Easter Barrel At Sanitarium Church Fund

Mrs Flora Wise the sanitarium bookkeeper reported a theft from a small wooden barrel used for an Easter offering for St Johns church. The barrel seal was broken and only 90 cents remained after deposits reached two dollars. Police will investigate the missing $1.10 from the contribution box.

Rector Ramsey resigns from St. John’s Church in Alma

At the Vestry annual meeting on Monday evening Rev. Ramsey announced resignation effective September 1. He plans to enter the General Theological Seminary in New York City. During his pastorate in Alma the parish saw steady growth and last Sundays offerings were the largest in church history. Parishioners regret his departure but join the Record in wishing him a prosperous future.
