Awarded the Medal Completes Comet Orbit Computation
Paul Delavan reports from La Plata University Buenos Aires that he and Dawson have finished computing the comet orbit. They refined results for publication in the Astronomical Journal and note the comet will be best seen in September in the northern hemisphere as a faint naked eye object. The Earth–comet geometry limits visibility, but a closer arrangement could have made it brighter than Donati or the 1882 great comet. Delavan expects two years of telescope visibility. A letter from Lick Observatory confirms he has been awarded the Donahue comet medal for discovering an unexpected comet on December 17.
