The New Jail Planned by County Officials
The county clerk hosts viewing of the new jail plans by Holland Hopkins of Topeka. The brick and stone two story building with Mansard roof will sit on the southwest corner of the courthouse grounds, resembling the old court house in style. The layout places four cells on each floor with surrounding sanitation, while rear first floor holds jailor office female etc. The second floor rear houses misdemeanor, insane and hospital cells with baths.

A Kicking Horse Injury Near Town
Ohio gentleman Mr. Hamilton and J. A. Balliet rode county superintendent Ford's horse five miles south of town in J. c. Bender's buggy. The horse kicked, Hamilton leaped clear, Balliet fell over the dash onto his shoulder. Balliet was brought back to town by wagon. physician says injuries are not serious.

W S Stambaugh received a postal from Henry Haine of Lawrence announcing James Balls death in Colorado. The remains will be interred in Lawrence after shipment today. Friends here mourn the untimely loss of Jim Ball a well known, generous traveling salesman for a St. Louis hardware house.

George Washington and the monstrous nine foot viper
The story recounts George Washington Shook fighting a huge viper by Mud creek. He swings with a scythe as the snake bends the blade back, then the creature bites and the blade sharpens itself. In a swift clash the snake decapitates itself and Wash survives. The nine foot eleven inch snake is described as thick as a stove pipe.
