Wells Conducts Hearings On Indiana Vocational Takeover

State Superintendent Richard D. Wells led hearings in Bedford and Indianapolis on placing all vocational and technical education under the Department of Public Instruction. A third federal-mandated session occurred in Plymouth. Wells aims to shift most expected 1970 federal funds from IVTech to public schools, opposing IVTech and prompting moves to transfer or defund its programs.

Vigo County Summer School Classes Set

Vigo County School Corp prepares to start summer programs for elementary, junior high and senior high students. Superintendent George J. Huys announced high school credit classes will run June 16 to August 8 in collaboration with Laboratory School of Indiana State University, while Summer Head Start serves 300 disadvantaged children from June 18 to August 12. A federal grant of 53755 supports 22 preschool sessions. The Physical Facilities Assessment was also released, with highlights published earlier.

16000 Men In First Pullout From Vietnam

Four Killed In Accident Near Lebanon

State police said four people died when a car carrying an Iowa couple collided with a semi truck that then struck two pedestrians near Lebanon. The deceased were identified as Ivan E. Shipley 69 of Ottumwa Iowa Edna O Shipley 65 and Steven A Clayton 20.
