Whitcomb opposes new Indiana medical school plan

Gov. Edgar Whitcomb announced a 29 member nonpartisan state commission on medical education to resolve Indiana's health care education crisis. He favored preserving Indiana University School of Medicine as the primary center and keeping a separate, specialized medical school from duplicating programs across the state. Beart SerVaas was named chairman and the panel includes public and college representatives. Continued on page 2 column 7.

Watch Officers Unable to be Charged Yet in Evans Collision

Two junior lieutenants from the destroyer Frank E. Evans are suspected of negligence after the Subic Bay collision with the Australian carrier Melbourne. Ramsey led the watch and Hopson steered as 74 sailors died. They asked for counsel while the joint U.S. Australian board delays testimony and continues review.

Rose Polytechnic 203 Seniors Earn Degrees In Commencement

Killer U S 41 claims life of Terre Haute man

A deadly crash on U S 41 near Rockville in Parke County killed Thomas Lee Winder 35 of Terre Haute and left Thomas J Jones 35 seriously injured. The car reportedly overturned six times and fell into a creek after leaving the road at high speed. Both men were thrown from the demolished 1969 vehicle. Winder died at North Side hospital. Jones remained in ICU in satisfactory condition. State police officials investigated with Parke County and Terre Haute troopers assisting.

Apology Given by Four Defendants in Cannon Damage

Four young men pleaded guilty to destroying a Civil War cannon and damage at Highland Lawn Cemetery. They were ordered to apologize publicly and pay 3637.82 in restitution. jail terms were delayed to September 15. The apology letter was printed for the citizens of Terre Haute, Indiana.
