The Tarborough Press outlines yearly subscription rates of two dollars fifty cents in advance or three dollars after one year, with monthly options and advance payment for distant subscribers. Advertisements under a square cost one dollar for the first insertion, twenty five cents per continuation, with longer ads charged proportionally and court orders at a twenty five percent premium. Letters to the editor must be postpaid.
A Beaufort County Republican gathering in Washington on a March Friday endorses Pitt County Greenville resolutions. Henry Toole proclaims South Republicans must forget feuds and unite, supports strict constitutional construction, and backs President Van Buren's financial reform. He signals opposition to the district Congress candidate, urging principled over personal alignment amid bank reform debates.
A meeting endorsed currency reform and hostility to banks. Delegates to the district convention were appointed across multiple townships including Washington, Tranters Creek, Upper Broad Creek, Bath, North Creek, and Blounts Creek with a resolution to publish in the Washington Republican and allied papers. MO. W. Williams chair and Geo. Hovshoy secretary signed the proceedings.
The Raleigh Register reports court rules set by the Supreme Court to organize term attendance. Applicants for bar admission must appear in the first seven days, docketed causes before day eight proceed in term, appeals after day seven may be tried or continued at the appellee’s option, and continuances are allowed for other post seven day causes. On day eight the calendar is called and distance-transported candidates may receive priority. Trials must proceed with arguments, submissions, or continuances unless special circumstances apply, equity causes under a Rule of Reference may stay open for reports and exceptions.
The FPA daily line of boats will commence running from Norfolk to Baltimore in connection with the Portsmouth and Roanoke Railroad. Under ordinary conditions, travel time for mail and passengers from Charleston to New York along this route is estimated at 70 to 75 hours, according to the Port Authority timetable.
The Whig convention for Craven District met in Kinston on Monday the 1st inst. and seated Mr. Biddle, late state senator from Craven, as the Whig candidate for Congress opposing Mr. Shepard.
