Dramshoppe case opens in Taos County court

A multifaceted Taos County dramshoppe trial begins as Diane Lee Cumming seeks 1 million for injuries after a 1984 head on crash caused by an admitted drunk driver. Defendants include Grand Taps Limited Holiday Inn entities and state highway interests. Taos Students Lead National Tests Amid Mixed Results

Taos High School students posted above national averages on the CTBS basic skills tests while overall achievement lagged behind last year’s APL results. Edward Abeyta notes 10th graders at 84 percent, 11th at 71 percent, and 12th at 75 percent passing the APL, with last year’s figures higher. Lower grades topped the national CTBS in the fourth, sixth, and seventh grades by at least 11 points.

Taos Schools Announce 9 Teachers Nonrenewals In Budget Reset

Taos municipal schools notify nine teachers a nurse and a coach will not be rehired next year due to budget cuts and non-reappointment decisions. Layoffs stem from enrollment declines and rising costs, with 29.5 positions reduced and 21.5 non-certified staff also affected. The board delayed final action until May 21.
