Domenici promises Taos runway and bypass support

Taos Town Council Vacancy Attracts Two Candidacies

Former town councilman Fernando Valdez and former state legislator Bobby Duran filed to run for the vacant Taos Town Council seat. A special election is set for July 22 to fill the position. Duran is an El Prado insurance agent and has served in the Legislature. Valdez, also an insurance agent, finished his last council term in 1984. The council previously appointed Santistevan mayor to fill the late Phil Lovato’s seat, but deadlocked on a replacement as Ruben Martinez was named by Santistevan with minimal support and did not file to run.

Taosenos lend 3 000 hands to Hands Across America

Taos residents joined more than 1 500 people in a nationwide chain to link mile markers 249 to beyond 250 on I-40 near Santa Rosa. The turnout exceeded organizers' hopes as locals connected the line with diverse participants including town workers, Jazzercise groups, Jaycees, a wheelchair child, teachers with life sized paper figures, and a banner proclaiming Taos New Mexico.
