Taos couple Robert and Merlinda Anaya won 700000 for a Buick Riviera lemon case but District Judge Thomas Mescall reduced the award on June 24 to 86000, removing punitive damages. Lightning strikes two hikers at Taos Ski Valley near Wheeler Peak
Two Los Alamos men hiking Wheeler Peak were struck by lightning on June 22. George Easley was hospitalized with burns and later released. Larry Luck was treated and released. The pair were helped by Dave Jelley Tim Tumlin and a Twining Search and Rescue crew as they descended toward Williams Lake. Burglars later robbed Easley’s home while his wife stayed with him.

Taos council OKs extra $5 traffic fine
Taos Town Council adopted ordinances to collect an extra five dollars with each traffic citation. Officials expect at least ten thousand dollars for the county sheriff’s budget to improve Taos County jail, with inmates sleeping on bare steel bunks and new fireproof mattresses ordered. No rape charges filed in Holiday Inn assault case
By Tuesday June 28 no charges had been filed in the June 14 rape of a Colorado woman at a Holiday Inn. Assistant District Attorney Jerry Wells said kidnapping may be added to rape as there is evidence she was moved from the hotel to an adjacent area where the attack occurred. District Attorney Sammy Pacheco said investigators will interview motel guests as the long process continues.
