Colorado man goes on trial in Taos County murder case

Victim Identifies Suspect In Taos Rape Case
A 19 year old Colorado woman reports being raped near the Holiday Inn on Tuesday. DA Sammy Pacheco notes ongoing investigation and that one suspect has been positively identified. She was treated at Holy Cross Hospital and released home. No charges yet. Taos Rape Crisis Center aiding the victim. A letter from Manuel O Trujillo denying involvement was presented, with his attorney declining comment. Trujillo was previously found innocent of a murder charge tied to the Garcia investigation and is appealing a related firearms sentence.

Plague Case Discharged At Santa Fe Hospital
Two Taos Pueblo men were discharged from Santa Fe Indian Hospital after bubonic plague tests and treatment. One 21 years old was positively diagnosed last Wednesday and released after successful care. The second man was tested and found negative. state epidemiologist Dr Wires Hull noted early treatment prevented progression.

Robert Apodaca of Questa met a Red Irish Setter visiting Los Angelitos handicapped children’s program in Canon. The gentle puppy interacted with the boy, who warmed to the animal after initial surprise and ended with his arm around the new friend. Taos approves budget and raises town revenues
Taos Town Council approved a 1983 budget of 2,632,260 up seven tenths percent from last year and planned to withdraw 398,850 from municipal savings. Fees for water and sewer rose to fund an expanded plant, with basic charges unchanged for 2,000 gallons, and the town increased the lodger’s tax from 2 to 3 percent to boost funding for marketing and a potential civic center.
