Chiquito fish kill shifts to electrofishing plan inlet

New Mexico Game and Fish will skip rotenone for Rio Chiquito trout restoration and instead use electrofishing to remove brown trout. Senator Francisco Gonzales offered funding and preservation aims, proposing a three year, 126900 dollar program with 10 crews sanding 120 volt currents to stun fish before removal.

Shooting near Rio Chiquita probes in Taos County

Taos County Sheriff and Taos District Attorney offices probe an apparent accidental shooting Saturday near Rio Chiquita. Roger Cortez, 20, of Taos, was shot while camping with Mary Olson. Olson fired the shot. Cortez was treated at Holy Cross Hospital for a bullet wound in the abdomen. Condition listed as good. no charges filed.

Highway talks set for Taos traffic relief route plan

State Highway Department officials will present an update on Taos traffic relief route and other area highway improvements. County Commission chairman Dae Miera and Mayor Pat Lovato announced the public meeting for Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Coronado Center council chambers. The agenda includes a planned traffic corridor.

Pilgrimage for Vocations Begins North of Taos Walks 100 Miles

The Peregrinos and Guadalupanas from northern New Mexico parishes start a six day, 100 mile walk from Costilla to Chimayo for vocations prayer. Two groups depart June 1 from Costilla and Estancia valley, meeting at the Santuario for a closing Mass.

Holy Cross Plans Rate Hikes At Taos Health System

Taos Health Systems Inc votes to raise semi private room charges from 135 to 155 dollars daily and private rooms to 160 dollars daily. Most surgical pathology lab and radiology charges rise 40 to 50 percent. physical therapy up 20 to 25 percent. Administrator cites 5 percent more operating revenue and alignment with state peers. An accounting firm reviews options for a new facility with a draft by early July.
