Lewis Heniford of Loris, former Tabor City High School drama leader and UNC graduate drama student, sparked attention as an active Playmakers member. He wrote It is the Night, staged with two other plays in Chapel Hill, directed another piece, served as stage manager for As You Like It, and acted as Dennis. Horry County agronomist W M Johnston reports bear trouble near Little River where bears raid honey and bee hives. Dr Stone moves hives, traps bears, and notes traps often dragged. some bears weigh over 200 pounds and can travel long distances while trapped. Also announced: F W Medlin to oversee the county fair operations and a large herd of 200 whiteface cattle on Myrtle Beach Farms. Mrs Wilkins and infant son expected home from McLeod Infirmary Florence.

Norris of near Tudor City reported this week that one of his brood sows had a litter of nineteen pigs born at his farm. The event was confirmed by local residents and noted as an unusual large litter for the area.
Columbus County Board of Health postponed the start of the school year from September 2 to September 9 after reviewing polio conditions. One new polio case was reported this week, totaling seven for the summer. Linda Faye Ivey, 3, of Boardman is the latest patient, with a Robeson county cousin also affected. Tabors City school hours will be 9 to 12 in mornings this week with Principal C. H. Pinner available for guidance mornings and evenings at the office or nearby home.
J. D. Lewis of Horry County died at Mullins Hospital from injuries from a Saturday night service station affray near Fair Bluff on the Nichols Fair Bluff highway. Punk Floyd of Cherry Grove reportedly struck Lewis with a jack handle as Lewis lunged with a knife after slashing P. K. Strickland. Lewis died without regaining consciousness after being rushed to hospital.
Dr and Mrs R C Harrelson Jr spent Friday and Saturday in Wilmington as guests of Mr and Mrs William S Dosher for the second annual Medical Symposium sponsored by the New Hanover County Medical Society at Wrightsville Beach They attended social functions connected with the conference.
