Miss Muril Cox was honored at a surprise birthday party given by her mother Mrs. a man Cox at her home on Route Three Monday night in August. About 15 guests attended after a backyard weiner roast and were invited inside for birthday cake and lime punch.
Mr and Mrs C G Westmore are visiting relatives in Augusta and Columbia this week with daughters Martha Helen and Frances Ann.
The United States Crop Reporting Board notes August 1 estimates for flue cured production at 1,005,007,000 pounds, down slightly from July 1. Gross sales reach 37,009,697 pounds, averaging 55.76 dollars per hundredweight, with season totals at 65,458,077 pounds and an average of 55.19 dollars.
A regional advisory board was chosen for the Carolina Yam Festival to be held in Tabor City October 14 16 led by County Agent Charles D Raper. Allison James, State Director of the U S Savings Bonds Division for North Carolina, announced that total State Security Loan sales of Series E F and G Savings Bonds amount ed to 28 632 725 dollars. North Carolina quota was 31 500 000 with 91 percent attained. Series F and G sales from July 19 15 totaled 8 262 000. A special offering was made to institutional investors. James credited volunteers for the results and noted the program strengthens Savings Bonds efforts nationally amid inflation concerns.
Mrs. Dallis Bell Lovett, 55, of Tabor City, died Friday morning at Columbus County Hospital after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at Colny Baptist Church with Rev. Minos Stuck officiating, burial in Carolina Cemetery. Survived by sister Louise Turbeville and brothers Bruce and Garfield Grainger of Tabor City.
The Buck Creek Union plans a two day session with Mt. Zion Paper on August 27 and 8. Delegates enrolled, preaching by appointees, dinner on the grounds, and a sequence of queries led by Rev. Ed wards Harrelson Carter Coats Gaskin Porter. Sessions include devotion and sermon topics on scriptural questions and the meaning of the little book with adjournment planned.
