Mrs Wilma Dutton Reaves aged 76 died at her Nakina home Sunday morning at 7. She was widow of the late and is survived by three sons Joe Brown Carol and Luther all of Nakina two daughters Eunice Gore ofina and Ruby Ward of Tabor City 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral was held Monday at 3 o clock from Re- Methodist church Ferry with Rev Robert umine, pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Nakina farmer Henry V. Canady died Sunday morning after a long illness at age 89. Funeral services were held Monday at 4 o'clock at Home Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Carter officiating. Survived by eight sons Don Joan Walter Canady of Nakina George Canady of Bladenboro Johnnie Tom Canady of Nakina. seven daughters Mrs. Charlie McLamb Mrs. Duffy Mrs. T. D. White Mrs. Edgar Long Mrs. Charlie Bullard Mrs. Bell Suggs all of Tabor City and Mrs. Harvey Ward of Whiteville.
The Women's Missionary Union of Mount Tabor Baptist Church met Monday afternoon for a business session led by Mrs. J. C. Singletary. A White Cross offering was taken and a nominating committee of Mrs. D. J. Hughes, Mrs. B. A. Garrell, and Mrs. D. F. McGougan was formed for next year.
Kit Lyon of Whiteville stays with her grandmother Mrs. J B Hardwicke this week. W J Hickman from Mullins visited his daughter Mrs James Jay last week.
Two parcels in Tabor City near the Whiteville highway will be auctioned this month. R. M. Garrell’s tract divides into 75 sites with one house. Alton Garrell’s into 200 sites with two houses. Auctions run August 25 for R. M. Garrell and August 28 for Alton Garrell, by C. W. Mills and Son of Bennettsville. Also on the 25th they will sell Rover Jacobs’ home on the Fair Bluff road.
Miss La Faye Cox and Martha Harrelson of Tabor City are entered as candidates for queen of the Tri- County Tobacco festival in Whiteville on August 19. Cox is sponsored by the Tabor City Merchants Association and Harrelson by the Tabor City Woman's Club.
Jason Norris has been promoted to assistant district manager of Southern Life Insurance Co. He will base his headquarters in Whiteville after formerly serving as an agent in Tabor City for about a year. He is the first to receive this promotion without many years of service, and plans to move his family to Whiteville within one or two months.
Hyman Leinwand was welcomed as a new Civitan member by the Tabor City club during its bi weekly meeting at the City Cafe. Joe Coleman attended as a guest. The gathering focused on fellowship with no formal program as members shared a meal.
Members of the Tabor City Rotary club were entertained at their Monday night meeting at the City Cafe by Happy Sam Fowler a popular local radio musician and comic.
Festival committee meetings will refine October 14 to 16 events in Tabor City with sweet potato experts from State College Extension Service. Attendees include six extension staff led by Larry C. Asby and local Rotarians. Highlights center on contests with prizes, beauty pageant, farmers and merchants exhibits, a carnival, and various sweet potato competitions. Betty Jean and Mary Ruth Klutz visit grandparents in Concord. A R Klutz family vacation at Ocean Drive Beach.
Lucile Bramlette librarian at Tabor City High School won one of three first prizes in a Chautauqua New York poetry contest. She submitted Azaxleas among 117 entries judged by professional poets while summer school at New York University was underway at Lake Chautauqua.
Horry County voters renominated Sheriff E L Sasser by about 1500 votes over John Henry in the Democratic primary. Incumbent A Thompson lost the State Senate post to Ernest D Richardson by nearly two to one. Page and Bays were renominated to the State House. Cliff Hardwick won the third seat. D D Harrelson did not seek renomination. Lt Arnette was renominated for road commissioner. Neville Bennett carried Hurry county for U S Senate though Burnet Maybank led statewide. Negro turnout included a special Conway precinct. Total Horry votes were about 9000.
The Women's Auxiliary of the Tabor City Presbyterian church met Tuesday evening at Mrs. Elwood Carter's home. Mrs. Angus Blue led the business session and Mrs. Percy Brown gave the program. Guests enjoyed apple pie a la mode during social hour. visitor Mrs. W. N. Lovelace attended.
The Dula McGougan circle of Mount Tabor Baptist church met last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. J. Canady. Mrs. Ben Nesmith Jr and Mrs. W. F. Cox led the program followed by apple pie a la mode. Attendees included Mesdames W. F. Cox, Charles Eddings, G. L. Dorman, M. C. Sarvis, Robert McCormick, Ben Nesmith Jr, A. T. Rogers, Sallie Currie, and Miss Alice Durant.
Dr and Mrs R C Harrelson and daughter Dianne have moved into a new residence this week confirming a family relocation.
Mr and Mrs Riley C Thomas of Chattanooga visited from Saturday to Tuesday with the A and Goldfinches. Mrs Riley and Mr Goldfinch are siblings.
Mr and Mrs Lesterie Graham and daughter Brenda visit Mrs John D Gore in Rock Hill.

Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Walden returned from South Boston Virginia where they were called to the bedside of his father Sam Walden who has been very ill.

The State Board of Elections closed the case after no new evidence. tobacco on the Tabor City market rose with a season average around 57 to 58 dollars per hundred pounds through early August amid continued strong prices.
Alden Leonard, a Tabor City resident, starts this week as parts manager for White Motor Sales. He has completed an 18 week course at Coynes Electrical School in Chicago and will also oversee servicing of electrical equipment for the company.

Miss Eloise Boyd, 15, of Tabor City files a $25,000 damage suit in Columbus Superior Court naming Atlantic Coast Line Railroad as defendant. She alleges she was struck by a Coast Line train while riding a bicycle across the main street crossing last October 25, was hospitalized for weeks, and her left leg was amputated above the knee.
The store of Mrs. W. M. Stephens and sons at Clarendon was entered last Thursday night. Thieves pried open a window pane to gain entry and stole several pocket knit watches and a leather jacket valued at about $90.
Mrs J B Hardwick hosted her bridge club Tuesday afternoon with two tables at her living room decorated by asters and roses. High scorer was Mrs S P Smith. After play the group enjoyed ice cream and ice provided by the host with members listed including D J Humes and B Bell.

Three Tabor City men Carl Skipper Robert Amnette and Partly Nealey were bound over to Superior Court by Recorder W E Har yels on $1500 bonds each charged with stealing from Dorman Furniture company during the Fourth of July weekend They allegedly broke into the Dorman store and took a bathtub and several chairs The bathtub was to be installed in Woodrow Sarvis house on Highway 701 and items were recovered in South Carolina Police Chief L K Watson reported
The Agriculture Department set a national marketing quota of 1 030 000 000 pounds for next year’s flue cured tobacco, aiming at roughly a 5 percent acreage increase over seasonal allotments. Up to 20 percent can be added before March 1, 1949, with further increases likely. Factors include exports tied to the European Recovery Plan, rising domestic cigarette demand, and higher current prices. The 1949 quota equates to about 960 000 acres, up from 908 000 in 1948.

W B Huston of Seaford Delaware, a noted local produce man, died Wednesday in a Wilmington hospital. The funeral is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. in Seaford.
