Heating oil outlook offers modest winter price gains
New York area heating oil may rise no more than five cents a gallon this winter, with oversupply and fierce competition keeping prices stable. Industry officials and government experts foresee no shortages and a modest average price around $1.25, down from last winter’s peak, while fixed-budget plans may yield surprise refunds.

Skywalk design called unsafe in Kansas City tragedy
The Kansas City skies walk collapse that killed 113 people at the Hyatt Regency Hotel was found not to meet steel industry stress standards and would likely have fallen under its own weight. Engineers studying government data say the second and fourth floor walkways would have collapsed regardless of occupancy, with the National Bureau of Standards calculating excess weight. University of Kansas professor Bogdan Kucmanovic cited that the suspended walkways failed on July 17 during a crowded lobby dance.
