FBI data show Syracuse crime up 23.2 percent January through June 1957, far above the national 7.2 percent urban rise and 4 percent overall. Total crimes reported by Syracuse police reached 1,871 versus 1,517 a year earlier, with gains across eight major categories except murders.
The U S Weather Bureau reports cooler air will linger tonight and tomorrow with lows near 40 and highs around 60. Skies are to clear after variable clouds, with northwest winds 5 to 10 mph tonight and northerly around 10 mph tomorrow.

Police identify James J. Long aged 17 George W. Kahler aged 18 and Nelson S. Troche aged 20 all of Albany as first degree murder suspects in the beating death of Robert L. Kent 39 an engineering technician for the State Department of Public Works Kent’s body was found in his downtown Albany apartment last April 13.
