Steven F Cunningham of Manlius learns his name appeared on a district attorney DWI list as a convicted driver. Stephen Cunningham of Texas had actually been arraigned for driving while intoxicated. The error arose from a mistaken background check linking Manlius and Texas names.
The first 1976 presidential debate faced a long delay after the sound failed at 10:51 p.m. and audio cables shorted. Carter and Ford watched 27 minutes of dead air before the event resumed. Observers favored Ford by decision, calling it a technical knockout for the electricians.
