A Paris dispatch reports the Netherland ambassador to Paris Dr Foof Vans Hinerssatann died in a shooting accident on his estate. Separately Syria granted two American oil companies a 78 year lease to build refineries and facilities along the Levantine coast with projected annual output of 6 5 000 tons.

Wing commander Mitscher announced Allied fighters intercepted a Japanese transport flight near Bougainville and destroyed two planes along with two escort fighters. An American plane was lost.
