The Syracuse City School District began the first phase of its two year desegregation plan with a quiet opening at three South Side elementary schools McKinley Brighton Powlesland and Van Duyn There were no protests though some parents planned a boycott starting tomorrow Buses ran on schedule but some riders missed rides due to early arrivals Dr Weeks Jr supervised and promised to fix schedule glitches as two more schools enter mandatory desegregation next September
