Oswego racer dies after time trial crash at speedway
Russ Santer, 28, of Cheektowaga, died from massive head injuries after his super modified car crashed into a wall during time trials for Oswego’s Silver Anniversary International Classic. He was airlifted to Syracuse State University Hospital after earlier treatment in Oswego. Santer completed his second lap, had just taken the checkered flag, and was the only driver on the track during time trials for the 96 mile race with a $70 000 purse.
