Petition drive seeks lake water cuts from Syracuse
Local residents led by Chris Beaudry of the Committee to Save Skaneateles Lake plan a weekend petition to urge Syracuse to reduce its daily water withdrawal from Skaneateles Lake amid four foot low water. Beaudry cites 48 million gallons drawn daily and 8 million leaking from pipelines, claiming the city drains the lake faster than it refills. He owns Glen Haven Hotel and says summer tourism and boat slips suffered. Beaudry estimates $15,000 lost. Mid-lakes Navigation reports losses from boats out of water and reduced mail and dinner cruises, using a smaller pontoon to draw less water. Recreational boat launching is limited. beaudry invites signatures at his hotel and has enlisting aides in state government.
