Quarantine Established for Beetle in Central New York
The U S Department of Agriculture announced a European Chafer beetle quarantine across Wayne and Monroe counties, nine Ontario County towns, and parts of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Elmira and Syracuse. Inspector Merriam said the beetle arrived via nursery shipments from Newark with infected plants from France.

Seven Admit Guilty in Gambling House Raid
Sam Williams, 71, of 605 Harrison Street, pleaded not guilty in Police Court to running a gambling house and selling liquor without a license. Seven others charged with being inmates pleaded guilty this morning. Williams was previously arrested and pled guilty last year to the same gambling charge, fined $100, released on $500 cash bail, and paroled on the ABC violation. Judge Truman H. Preston set November 4 for disposition. Fines of $10 were imposed on Morris Wilbur Thomas, 50. Ranson Batey, 37. Robert Brown, 123 Renwick Place. Otis Way, 44. Ernest DeBose, 30. Alfonca Birden, 29. Major Albert Thomas, 28. The eight men were arrested when Radio Patrol officers Leane and Fogary raided a card game at 805 Harrison Street. Fourteen decks of cards and money were seized. beer was also sold without a license.

Memphis Girl Hurt As Autos Collide
An 18 year old Memphis girl, Donna Horner of Memphis R. D. 1, sustained cuts from a two car collision on Kingston Rd north of Route 5. She was treated at Auburn City Hospital. Trooper Nicholas Dalizia said Horner was the operator of one car and Floyd Chilson, 24, of Elbridge, was the driver of the other. he escaped injury.

State Urges Community Insurance for County Plans
Onondaga County supervisors are asked by the State Department of Audit and Control to study a new group self insurance plan for communities. Bartender Injured In Tavern Scuffle
A bartender visiting a taproom was injured when an unknown man struck him and pushed him through a plate glass window. Stillman Klein, 29, of 220 Furman St, was treated at Crouse Irving Hospital for cuts on the forehead left ear and right arm from the shattered glass after an argument on West Onondaga Street bar led to the scuffle.
