State OKs East Syracuse medical microwave project
Envirotech General Manager Bernie Stanzione would not return calls as the village weighs a state issued permit allowing a medical microwave facility at Hartwell Avenue in East Syracuse. Since 1989 Envirotech has served over 1,000 regional customers including Onondaga County Medical Examiner, Syracuse offices and hospitals in Massena and Potsdam. The DEC said no public hearing was required and village input was limited. The device must cook waste 30 minutes at 203 degrees Fahrenheit with no chemicals or radioactive waste and a radiation detector installed. The permit runs to April 30, 1998 with renewal required. Village officials seek more status updates and consider whether such operation belongs near residences.
