Ninety one year old King Gustav V of Sweden collapsed at a cabinet meeting in Drottningholm Palace. The King had been in poor health over the past year, missing the Nobel Prize award in December 1949 for the first time in 41 years.

Midstate Raceway halted work on the Col lamer harness track eight miles north of Syracuse after a National Production Authority ban. The United States plans to support a United Nations special committee resolution to revoke the ban on ambassadors to Madrid and permit Spain to join UN affiliated groups. Britain would abstain. Latin American and Arab states back the measure, which does not grant full UN membership to Franco Spain.

In Massapequa a revolver allegedly stolen from a state trooper’s private car led to the accidental death of 15 year old Harold De Vicchis. Police say Thomas Stephen, 15, stole the weapon a week earlier. De Vicchis and Stephen were handling the gun at 66 Chicago Ave when it fired. Stephen faces a juvenile delinquency charge in Nassau County Juvenile Court.
Three men died in a fiery crash when two trailer trucks collided on Route 4 in Wallingford Connecticut. Victims were William Dimirsky 37 Jose Stininick 56 of the Bronx and James DeFemia 43 of Hartford. Police identified the victims.
Queen Elizabeth registers her racing colors making her the first English queen in 250 years to race in her own silks. The scheme features blue buff stripes blue sleeves black cap and gold tassel and will debut with steeplechaser Manicou at Fontwell Park next Thursday.

Horace Kirby 83 a recluse known as the wealthiest man in Dade County was found dead in a creek with a 10 pound rock tied around his neck. Sheriff Everett Evans said no foul play and all indications pointed to suicide. Coroner Dr J A Wren said no inquest. Kirby was worth about 3 9 million and residents estimated his land holdings at about 10 000 acres in Missouri and Texas.
