Fire halts trains in Boston subway system

A suspicious blaze at MBTA headquarters in Boston knocked out communications and power, suspending the subway during the morning rush. Fire gutted the first floor operations center, delaying thousands of commuters before limited service was restored after 7 a.m. MBTA spokesman Paul DiNatale said service was nearly back to normal by late morning.

American doctor scales Everest in frigid solo climb

UPI reports Dr Peter Hackett 35 of Anchorage Alaska reached the summit of Mount Everest amid darkness and sub zero winds. He was the fifth member of a 21 member expedition to complete the ascent after an eight hour ascent along the south ridge ending at 29 028 feet. The Tourism Ministry announced yesterday.
