Britain Receives 310 Million Dollar ECA Loan
The Economic Cooperation Administration lent 310 million dollars to Britain for industrial machinery and materials under the European Recovery Program. The loan bears 2.16 percent annual interest, payable semiannually from 1952, with repayments starting 1956 and continuing through 1983. The loan is part of Marshall Plan aid and is the first major recovery program credit, with total ECA negotiations exceeding 800 million dollars. Congress mandated that 1 billion of the initial 5.055 billion be used for loans rather than grants, and the agreement allows deferral of interest and principal after discussions.
