DeWitt officials and residents of Cliffside Trailer Park seek a solution to a loosened limestone cliff above the park after a park closure order. Town officials cite danger from erosion and quarry blasting and plan a two week meeting with residents to explore reinforcement or other steps.
A student protest against Tongsun Park at Yonsei University in Seoul escalated into riot conditions. Police faced stone throwing and used antiriot gas to clear the campus, with 20 to 40 students detained and no serious injuries reported. Witnesses cite dissatisfaction with Park Chung-hee's rule.

In Brunswick Ohio an 18 year old university student, Michael Swihart, admitted beating his parents and two brothers with a baseball hat, dousing the home with gasoline, and igniting it. Four family members died and a gasoline can and igniter were found at the scene. Swihart faces four counts of aggravated murder.
The forecast from Hancock Airport calls for increasing cloudiness overnight with a low around 50 degrees. Rain tomorrow cools the mood but highs near 60. The extended outlook shows partly cloudy Thursday and a chance of showers Friday, with daily highs in the 50s to mid 60s and nightly lows in the 40s.
Gov. Hugh Carey commuted seven marijuana related sentences in New York, applying the new law that cuts penalties for small pot offenses. One man, Lawrence Butts of Syracuse, had served 18 months of a 1.5 to 3 year term for selling 5.6 grams and possessing 2.6 ounces, and others faced adjusted terms ranging from probation to a maximum of one year.
Albany lawmakers return to the Capitol for a special session called by Gov. Hugh Carey to act on a bill allowing New York City to reenter the borrowing market. The move aims to finish work before broader issues can be stirred by the assembly.
Beavers gnawed trees causing a 6 hour outage for over 1 000 Niagara Mohawk customers in Harrisville Linus County yesterday. A utility spokesman cited a downed transmission line hit by a beaver damming activity and noted rights of way cleared but beavers continue felling trees across lines.
