Upstate Weather Brief Tracks Cold Front and Showers

Snow flurries and rain showers fell over parts of the upstate area last night. A cold front is due to move into Central New York tonight bringing more showers. Night temperatures near freezing with a high mid fiftys tomorrow, then cool fair weather through Saturday. Clocks set back one hour this weekend.

Income up Slightly in September. Spending Drops

Washington report shows personal income rose 0.8 percent in September with over one third from interest income on high yield savings and investments. Spending fell as rebate promotions ended and auto purchases slowed.

Sony vows fight after court rules against personal copyright tapes

In Tokyo Sony Corp says it will fight to the last moment a Ninth Circuit ruling that taping of copyrighted movies and TV programs for personal use infringes copyright. In London October unemployment falls but remains near 12.4 percent of the workforce. In New York the numbers game drawing results are announced. Heating oil price drop seen through mid winter

Robert Kelly of the Service Station Operators of Upstate New York says home heating oil has fallen seven cents from last winter and should drop another three by mid winter. A survey confirms the trend, with prices sliding from 1.269 to 1.199 per gallon and possibly to 1.169 by February. Local officials note relief for low income households but warn inflation elsewhere remains a burden.

Senate GOP weighs 6.2 billion tax rise to trim deficit
