Lufthansa jet hijacked to Rome by Tiger Group
A Lufthansa airliner with 91 aboard was seized by a man claiming membership in The Tiger Group. The hijacker forced the plane to land at Rome and demanded freedom for comrades jailed in West Germany. The jet then departed Rome after refueling, headed toward Nicosia, Cyprus, with the hijacker speaking via radio to Leonardo da Vinci tower.

Student killed in bicycle accident near Binghamton University
Leon Glow a 25 year old student at Binghamton State died from injuries after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on the Vestal Parkway near the university entrance. The collision occurred about 11 30 p m and Glow died this morning at Binghamton General Hospital.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Companies announced it will pull out of New Jersey after 25 years, reporting continuous operating losses. The move affects 76 000 auto policies 31 000 fire and home policies and 7 600 commercial policies with 92 agents and 66 employees to be eliminated. The firm posted a 5.2 million operating loss on 22 million in premiums in 1976 and warned of a 41 percent auto premium rise needed to break even after prior increases.
