Trains Derailment Kills 13-Year-Old in Lansing Depot
A Grand Trunk Western fast freight derailed in Lansing injuring 12 others and crushing the depot end. A 13 year old boy named James Smith was killed while selling magazines on the platform as the 50 car train toppled walls of fruit and perishables along a three block stretch. Officials opened an investigation to determine the cause and any tampering.
