Irene Kuhn of the U S Committee for the Care of European Children said the group fled bombed trains en route to Glasgow. Sixty six children from the British Actors School went to Yonkers and the Edwin Gould Foundation in the Bronx. others went to Grand Central Station to the Seamen's Institute. Nearly 1,000 children have been transported to the United States, with 420 arriving this week.

Fort Dix New Jersey October 5 Lieutenant General Hugh A Drum commander of the Second Corps Army Area welcomed a surprise inspection by Representative Hamilton Fish of New York of conditions at Fort Dix. Drum cited that less than one half of one percent of the 12 000 men were sick far below the army average and noted the post’s overall satisfactory conditions despite an anonymous letter alleging poor meals and dirty facilities. Fish said he plans to investigate the matter but Drum invited him to inspect any time.
