Rescuers Reach Plane Wrecked in Alps
Brig. Gen. Ralph Snavely led a mountaineer rescue toward the U S Army C 53 wreck in the Bernese Oberland Alps. About 11 marooned Americans were awaiting extraction from the 6000 foot ice bowl as 50 climbers closed in. Brig. Gen. Tate said the seriously injured would be prioritized for descent toward a hut and onward to an Army hospital in Munich. The plane had crash landed near Strahlegg Peak, 13 miles southeast of Interlaken, after a Munich to Pasag flight, with seven passengers including generals and wives onboard. Captain Ralph Tate, son of Brig. Gen. Tate, piloted the aircraft and survived.

WALSENGTON Gi South Trimble, 82, veteran clerk of the House of Representatives, died at his home today after a brief illness. A native of Hazel Green Kentucky, he entered the House in 1900 as Democratic representative from Kentucky and served three terms. He was elected clerk in 1911 and served until 1918. When the Democrats regained control in 1920 he again assumed the clerkship and remained through the last Congress. A farmer by occupation, he was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1893 and again in 1900, serving as speaker the last year.
