Con Ed shut down Indian Point 2 late yesterday after a cooling pump seal malfunction caused leakage in the reactor building. Officials said no radioactivity was released and no personnel were in danger, as a faulty seal allowed water flow to exceed normal levels. The plant remains offline pending repairs and has a history of multiple closures since 1980.
Vernon Jordan, president of the National Urban League, blistered Reaganomics at a Rochester news conference yesterday, calling the policies hostile to black Americans and the poor.
