Central New York Weather: Cool Week Ahead Forecast

The National Weather Service at Hancock Airport says May will stay cool and gray for most of the week. Tonight's low near 45 with southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Tuesday brings variable clouds and a 40 percent chance of showers or storms and a high near 70. Thursday to Saturday stay cool with lows near 40 and highs in the 50s to around 60. Friday and Saturday look fair with lows in the 30s and highs near 40 Saturday, around 60.

More than 10,000 fans packed the East Syracuse Amtrak station to see the Real People cast arrive on a 12 car Conrail train. Sarah Purcell urged smiling for cameras as fans cheered. Firefighters Earn Bravery Awards After Early Morning Blaze

Willie Ash and John Simms, both senior Syracuse firefighters, received the Arthur Jenkins Award and the Francis Hendricks Award for bravery after responding to a blaze at 211 Grace Street within a minute of the alarm. Firefighters rescue two girls from burning home

Thomas Heaney recalls leaping onto a fire truck to warn crews of three children inside. Firemen Ash and Simms forced through dense smoke to reach 4-year-old Tisha and 3-year-old Jesica, badly burned, then handed them to others as heroes fought the blaze. An infant Brandon slept nearby in the first-floor bedroom as flames raged.
