Dressler cautions NY Tel rate hike plan
Erik P. Dressler, director of the county Office of Consumer Affairs, calls New York Telephone’s $889 million rate request unthinkable for residents, businesses, and government. He concedes some inflation driven increases may be needed but argues this magnitude would trigger higher bills, higher costs for businesses, and tax-funded payments by local government while suggesting cheaper independent equipment as a long term safeguard.
