The National Weather Service at Hancock Airport warns golfers gardeners and others planning a Sunday outdoors to expect occasional rain. Tonight a 40 percent chance of rain with temps 45 to 50 degrees. tomorrow a 70 percent chance with 60 to 65 degrees and south winds 10 to 20 mph.
The IRA said it planted a bomb on a ship where Queen Elizabeth II was dining and a crude hand grenade exploded under a police vehicle in West Belfast, injuring five officers as the group intensified its campaign against Britain.

Secretary of State Alexander Haig told more than 20,000 graduates at Syracuse University Carrier Dome that a period of introspection ends and a renewed American self confidence underpins foreign policy. He outlined four points including NATO importance, stronger alliances, role in the Third World, and boosting US economy and defenses.
The Carrier Dome hosted Syracuse University’s 127th graduation as Alexander Haig Jr. delivered the keynote. About 150 graduates and several faculty members left the floor in protest while non-students gathered on the second level shouting anti Haig and anti war chants, briefly disrupting the ceremony.

About 600 graduates reportedly walked out. 100 demonstrators rallied outside in 45 degree temps with banners and chants. An ad hoc coalition including NAACP, NOW, PEACE Inc., and labor groups organized the protest ahead of Haig's remarks.
