Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin charged V. M. Molotov with trying to block a 21 nation peace conference by demanding Big Four consensus on all treaty fundamentals before submission. He warned such a veto would bar participating nations from expressing views and leave the conference deadlocked.
The House reversed last month’s vote to approve 400 million dollars in subsidies for President Truman’s emergency home-building program. The tally stood 178 to 158 after Easter recess shifts. Democratic leaders expect quick action on extending price controls as well, with further debate anticipated.

He may sign decrees as Umberto II but omit the traditional grace of God phrase. Vittorio Emanuele III abdicated after a 45 year reign and will sail to Egypt.
Snow fell in Nebraska Colorado and Montana as a cold air mass from Saskatchewan moved in. Temperatures dropped below freezing in the Dakotas and Wyoming.
