After a chilly night with temperatures under 40 degrees, Hancock Airport forecasts a sunny day with a high near 70. Tonight and tomorrow show little to no rain chances as the mercury climbs.
The New York Court of Appeals held that cable firms may legally lay lines across private property and attach equipment to a landlord building without paying rent. In two related decisions the court also ruled tenured teachers are not entitled to a formal hearing before critical letters from school administrators are placed in their files.
Israel celebrated its 33rd birthday as thousands gathered in parks and along the sea. Prime Minister Menachem Begin warned that Israel will do what it must to compel Syria to withdraw its Soviet-made SAM-6 missiles from Lebanon, casting a pall over celebrations.

State Senator Martin Auer asked Senate Majority Leader Warren Anderson to strike 1.4 million dollars for a hazardous waste treatment plant from the proposed budget. Bourgeois, a 42 year old Chicago Maryknoll priest, entered the U S Embassy in San Salvador and said he wants to leave the country immediately. He had vanished April 26 while working as an interpreter for Bill Kurtis. A body found in a ravine near the Capr was not confirmed as him.
