Fire in Chinatown Apartment Kills Two as Fireworks Fueled Blaze
A five story Chinatown apartment building in Manhattan caught fire around 12:45 a.m. and spread to a neighboring structure. Firefighters used ladders to rescue occupants, with 12 taken to hospitals, two dead and five in life threatening condition. Fire officials said fireworks found on a floor fueled the blaze and initial reports of nine deaths were revised as patients were revived.
