Weather across Upstate New York shifted from cool to warm with temperatures rising from 39 to 79 by midday. A weak Great Lakes system brings clouds and possible rain tonight, followed by cooler, drier conditions later in the week. Tonight 40 percent rain chance. highs near 60 tomorrow.
The Senate Ethics Committee voted unanimously to investigate possible ethical violations by Sen. Harrison Williams D New Jersey, the only Senate member convicted in the Abscam scandal. Chairman Malcolm Wallop said Williams conviction does not relieve the panel of its duty as the verdict rested on criminal statutes, not Senate rules.
Two Chessie System railroad bridges were dynamited in the coalfields of eastern Kentucky early today, but company officials said they did not know whether the blasts were linked with a nationwide strike by the United Mine Workers.
