An unnamed authoritative source said the United Nations commission for ozone energy control will hold a test meeting in New York on May 5. All Meslean representatives are expected to attend in time for the mid May session, though the UN secretariat has not officially announced the date.

Russia informed the Chinese Nationalist Government that all Russian rail road personnel will be withdrawn from Manchuria after several technicians were killed by Nationalist troops. The move risks halting railway operations and severing lines of communication as Manchurian fighting continues near Mukden and potential spillover into Hupeh.

Dr. Roy K. Marshall, director of the Franklin Institute's Fels Planetarium, said two earthquakes of tremendous proportions were recorded on the institute's seismograph. He suggested they occurred 25 to 30 minutes apart in the South Pacific, perhaps near New Zealand.

Sean McCaughy, at Maryboro prison, has gone 16 days without food and 10 days without water. Peter Fleming, in Belfast Prison, has been on hunger strike for 45 days with a brief food break.
Republicans privately consider drafting legislation to curb radio propaganda by bureaucrats and commentators. They plan to submit a bill to the commerce committee to regulate what may be said over radio and curb the powers of the Federal Communications Commission.

U S Army units evacuated Feucht near Nuernberg as a massive fire tore through the Mana Ordnance Works. Explosions rocked the area with V-2 rockets stored there exploding ten to fifteen times, threatening large quantities of shells poison gas and war materiel. Army posts and investigations followed as crews fought the blaze and assessed its origin and scope.
American soprano Grace Moore, after announcing she was seriously contemplating Catholicism, was received in audience by Pope Pius XII in Rome. Moore had made her Italian debut in a concert the previous night.
Paris reports one of the closest votes in French history as empire wide balloting on a new constitution proceeds. The plan concentrates power in a single National Assembly and abolishes the Senate, with Communist Leader Maurice Thorez predicting about 58 percent support for the measure.

The three day Alcatraz prison revolt ended Saturday with authorities in control. Leaders Joseph Paul Cretzer Bernard Paul Coy and Marvin Hubbard were killed at their gun positions behind blood splattered cell blocks. Guards moved in with guns blazing and no prisoner appears to have escaped.
Washington dispatch notes the Methodist Board of Temperance urges 40 000 churches and others to observe Sunday June 2 as a day of prayer for curtailing alcoholic beverage traffic. The Clipsheet revival, after 13 years post repeal, kicks off two years of temperance education and activity authorized by the bishops council.
