Pop falls short of Bakshi vision in American Pop review
Film traces a immigrant family through late 1800s to present with a heavy emphasis on lyrics rather than melodies. Bakshi blends animation with history, but the narrative remains predictable and the music plays a minor role until the contemporary era. The work features strong period backdrops, uneven integration of stills and footage, and a focus on war era episodes including Benny and Tony’s arcs.
